Donovan Basin (Hudson Bay Silver, Kell Mine, Thompson)
Size:9,264 ha (45 claims)
Target Minerals::Silver, Cobalt
- Several intersecting calcite veins up to 4 inches wide in Nipissing diabase.
- Kell drill hole AGKL07-08 intersected 2,401 g/t silver over 1.73m
Size:9,264 ha (45 claims)
Target Minerals::Silver, Cobalt
Property Geology:
The entire area of the Donovan Basin is underlain by flat lying Huronian sediments, in the western part by Gowganda Fm and in the eastern part by overlying Lorrain Fm. A thin sheet of diabase (quartz diabase) intrudes the sediment in the shape of a gently dipping (10 deg) basin. In the only place where the diabase is exposed, at the No. 3 shaft at the Hudson Bay mine in Leith Tp, it is 800 ft thick, which might be a maximum for the area.
A 55 NW dipping 250'- thick limb of a quartz diabase sheet intrudes Lorrain quartzite. A strong fracture or calcite-quartz veins follow the lower contact over distance. Mineralized subsidiary veins contain silver and arsenides and sulphides. Calcite-quartz veins up to 18 inches wide.
Developed by an inclined shaft was sunk to 104 ft. Important pits were sunk on surface south of the inclined shaft and 700 feet to the north.
1,621 ozs of silver were recovered from the open cut south of the shaft.
Mag and VLF; in 2007 a diamond drilling program consisting of 2,270 m (7,447 ft) in 18 holes was conducted around the mine site.
The exploration program successfully identified areas of silver enrichment along the Kell Mine deformation zone, with drill hole AGKL07-08 returning 2,401 g/t silver over 1.73m, from 36.72m to 38.45m down hole. The silver is hosted in a quartz-calcite-chlorite vein zone in altered diabase, where silver is found in both veining and wall rock. The intersection returned a higher-grade sample of 4,580.4 g/t silver over 0.53m, from 36.72 to 37.25 as well as 3.574.5 g/t silver over 0.40m from 37.25m to 37.65m.Drilling also intersected 262 g/t silver, over 8.63m in drill hole AGKL07-04, from 57.54m to 66.17m down hole.
Thompson -- Donovan Twp:
Several intersecting calcite veins up to 4 inches wide in Nipissing diabase.
Developed in 30-ft shaft and 17 shallow drill holes (1951-1956); assays up to 2,000 oz/t Ag and 5% Co reported.
Hudson Bay Silver Mines Ltd. (Rustex) -- Leith Tp.
A Nipissing diabase sheet dips 5 SW. A shear zone with a vein system strikes NNE for 800 m, containing narrow calcite veins with ore shoots up to 30m near their intersection with transverse veins; calcite up to 16 inches wide.
Developed by two inclined and two vertical shafts over interval of 400m 1910-1913.
Production : 80,186 ozs Ag and 365 lbs cobalt. Grade averages 20 oz/t silver. Surface stockpiles and UG broken ore reserves reported 10,400 tons grading 12.2 ozs silver in 1967.
